An Ciúneas (An Koo -nus)  is an acrylic painting of a very brooding sky over a lonely stretch of wild land — a solitary house resting in the distance, with its barn holding its own against the weight of weather and time. Inspired by the quiet wilderness of the Irish farm lands with the deep calm found in Irish landscapes, this painting captures that rare moment when the world seems to hold its breath.

My family hail from Carlow in the South of Ireland where my fathers farm is still going strong at the base of Black Stairs Mountain and my mother from Enniskillen in Northern Ireland.   The landscapes in both parts of the country are shown here in An Ciúneas and I love it.

The pathway from the edge of the painting to the house, weaving through the over grown grass, evokes both the solitude and peace of a landscape — stillness, belonging, and the beauty of remoteness I hope is what you see in this painting.
