Where to start with this one!
The inspiration came during my recent trip to Alaska. I arrived at a time when the state was battling more than 300 forest fires, sparked by lightning. Although I was perfectly safe, I couldn’t shake a sense of unease about the days ahead. But “days” is the right word — it never truly got dark. Smoke hung in the air, blurring the endless daylight, and that surreal atmosphere became the seed for this painting.
I first sketched the idea while I was there, and it refused to leave me. Multiverse stayed with me, almost demanding to be painted.
Different people have seen different things in it. Some see the fire I witnessed, others a wave. A few notice the sharp white shard of light, something almost cinematic — like a Marvel film — hinting at the balance of night following day, or at the thought of countless worlds existing under the same sky. That’s why the name Multiverse felt right.
I worked in acrylics and inks to capture that moment, and I’m so happy with how it holds the raw reaction I felt upon landing in such an extraordinary place.
This piece is very abstract, and I’d love to know what you see in it.
